Key Facts:- 

  • Number of the form a/b where b≠0 are called fractions. a is called the numerator and b the denominator.
  • A fraction a/b in which b≠0 and a<b (eg. 4/9) is called a Proper Fraction.
  • A fraction a/b in which b≠0 and a=b or  a>b (eg. 10/3) is called an Improper Fraction.
  • A fraction (5 3/7 = 5+ 3/7) which can be expressed as the sum of a natural number and a fraction is called a Mixed Fraction.
  • A fraction whose denominator is multiple of 10 is called a Decimal Fraction.
  • Fraction having denominator as whole number other than a power of 10, i.e., 10, 100, 1000, etc. are called Vulgar fraction. 
  • The sequence of operations followed while simplifying a numerical expression is 
BODMAS
