Q. 1  A rectangular field is to be fenced on three sides leaving a side of 20 m uncovered. If the area of the field 680 sq m, how many meter of fencing is required?

Solution:-

As shown in the Fig. there is a rectangular field is to be fenced on three sides leaving a side of 20 m uncovered because opposite sides of the rectangle is equal so length (L) of the rectangular field will 20 m and let breadth of the rectangular field B.

Length of the Rectangular field (L) = 20 m

Breadth of the Rectangular field (B) = B m

Area of Rectangular Field (A) = Length x Breadth

Breadth of  Rectangular Field = Area / Length

Breadth of  Rectangular Field = 680 / 20

Breadth of  Rectangular Field = 34 m

Fencing Required  =  Perimeter of Rectangle - 20 m

                               =   2 × ( Length + Breadth) - 20

                               =  2 × ( 20 + 34 ) - 20

                                = 2 × 54 - 20

                                = 108- 20

Fencing Required = 88 m  Ans

Some Important Formulas :-

Perimeter of a Rectangle = 2 (L+B)

Area of Rectangle =  length × width

Area of Square =  Side × Side

Area of a Triangle 1/2 Base × Height

Area of a Circle Ï€r2
